Muscat: The public transport operator, Mwasalat, will no longer accept cash payments from August 1, 2026, in Muscat and Salalah city services, as part of the efforts to promote a faster and easier travel experience and promote digital payments.

Ticket fares will be limited to approved electronic payment methods.

In February this year, Mwasalat announced that passengers can now pay their fares using cards on all of its buses. By introducing digital payments, Mwasalat also removed the hassle of carrying exact change, helping reduce delays and ensuring a smoother, more efficient journey for both passengers and drivers.
